Batteries are included however, the box will need to be opened fully to turn on the try me feature. I have opened one up (not one you will receive) and found that the batteries were loose, once popped back in, Captain Spaulding works fine. Please also note that for optimum sound quality, we recommend replacing the batteries it comes with and using good quality batteries.
